The Services We Provide

The Humane Society of Jefferson County, Inc. (HSJC) is a non-profit entity serving municipalities in Jefferson County. We contract with these municipalities on an annual basis to provide animal control 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.

Help Financially

The Humane Society of Jefferson County, Inc. (HSJC) accepts funds and property to provide care for the neglected animals of Jefferson County. Since only one third of our annual budget comes from municipal contracts, we rely on the generosity of individuals and business donors and on fundraising events to cover the costs of housing, food, medicine,  veterinary fees and other services rendered.

The HSJC is a public charity under Federal Tax Law and is tax exempt under Section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Gifts qualify for maximum deductibility for income and estate tax purposes.

Ways of Giving

Individuals and businesses can give to the HSJC in the following ways:

  • Cash Gifts — Please make checks payable to the HSJC and mail them to us at W6510 Kiesling Road, Jefferson, WI 53549. Canisters are located at various retail businesses throughout the county to accept coin and small dollar donations. Large cash gifts should not be mailed but presented directly to the executive director at the shelter.

  • Marketable Securities — Usually, the full, fair-market value of highly appreciated securities can be deducted as a charitable donation. Contact the executive director for details.

  • Real Estate — Gifts of appreciated property may have tax advantages for donors.

  • Life Insurance — Premium payments may be deductible when the HSJC is named as the owner and beneficiary.

  • Planned Giving — By naming the HSJC as a beneficiary of your will or trust, your gift qualifies for maximum deductibility for income and estate tax purposes. You may designate whether your gift is for current shelter operations or for long-term support through our Endowment Fund.  Click here for our Endowment Fund brochure (PDF)
