Livestock
Adoption
Criteria:
1) In order to qualify for adopting livestock, you should do the following:
-
Already own the species you are adopting or have previous ownership experience with and knowledge of that species.
-
Observe all municipal ordinances where you reside, including acreage requirements.
-
Maintain the animal(s) on your own property.
-
Be 18 years of age or over.
2) The potential adopter must provide a barn or lean-to, safe and proper fencing (no barbed wire) and adequate water/feed supplies (including a way to keep water from freezing in the winter). A pre-adoption visit from a staff member of the HSJC may be required.
3) As part of the adoption application, the potential adopter must provide the name and phone number of his or her veterinarian, farrier (if applicable) and person who will care for the animal(s) when the owner is away.
4) Any animal adopted from the HSJC may not be given, loaned or leased to another person. If the adopter is not able to keep the animal, arrangements must be made with the HSJC to return it.
5) It is the goal of the HSJC to place our animals in permanent, loving homes. To that end, we will place our animals in the best/most appropriate home that meets or exceeds the minimum adoption criteria.
