Funding

The HSJC is a private non-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation founded in 1922. Our funding comes in several categories, the largest of which is donations, charitable giving and bequests from the generosity and goodwill of the public. Historically, about 33-37% of the HSJC’s annual budget comes from municipalities in the county that contract with the shelter to provide stray animal control. The remainder of our funding comes from shelter-sponsored events such as our Fur Ball, a black tie event held annually in March. Many smaller events (both shelter sponsored and public sponsored) make up the remainder of our budget.
