Fall 2006 Rabies Clinic

On Saturday, October 28th, the Humane Society of Jefferson County held its annual Fall Rabies Clinic vaccinating 188 dogs and cats. A Rabies vaccination is required by law for all dogs aged 4 months or older. Although the vaccination is not required for cats it is strongly recommended. Indoor/outdoor cats are especially vulnerable to disease but even cats who are lucky enough to live strictly indoors are at risk. There is always the possibility that a bat may enter the home and infect your cat. Most of the recent human rabies cases in the United States have been caused by Rabies virus from bats. Remember, Rabies is a fatal disease for both people and animals. Why take a chance? Vaccinate your pets!
